Brown-Banded Cockroach Biology

The brown-banded cockroach is a small invasive roach, measuring up to 14 mm in length. With its North American roots traced back to the early 1900s when it invaded Florida from Central America, the brown-banded cockroach is nocturnal but can be discovered during daytime. Reproducing aggressively, female brown-banded cockroaches lay approximately 14 egg capsules during their lifetime with roughly 10 to 18 eggs contained within each capsule.

Brown-Banded Cockroach Behaviour, Diet, Habitat and Life Cycle

Mainly active at night, brown-banded cockroaches sometimes hunt for food during daytime. Usually avoiding water sources, they prefer warm and dry spaces like cabinets and picture frames. Compared to other roaches, this species can be found in higher up locations. A smaller cockroach species too, brown-banded roaches can also easily harbour in wallpaper, electrical appliances, shower units, and spaces beneath furniture.

Diet-wise, this particular cockroach is a scavenger and enjoys starch-based food. Elsewhere, brown-banded cockroaches are known to feast on wallpaper paste and bookbinding too. Lastly, this roach species lives for just over 200 days on average.

Wondering How To Get Rid Of Brown-Banded Cockroaches?

Eliminate your residential or commercial brown-banded cockroach infestation with Terminix Canada. Remember, an effective cockroach removal program depends on diligent sanitation to eliminate excess food, water, and harbourage areas.

The use of gel baits and dust are the most effective means of cockroach control. Glue traps are helpful, but are seen more as monitoring devices than a control tactic. A thorough vacuuming of harbourage areas is also beneficial in neutralizing cockroach populations by destroying cockroach eggs.

Ultimately, our team of professionals know which cockroach tactics to deploy so troublesome cockroach infestations can be tackled swiftly and effectively.
