A rodent has many potential points of entry into a building that they can easily squeeze through; gaps around doors are one of the most common.
Rodents can enter a building through badly fitted and damaged doors and frames. They can also squeeze through the gap under most doors. Rats have a collapsible skeleton meaning a fully grown rat can squeeze through a 24mm hole and mice can squeeze through a gap that’s only limited by the size of their skull, which is about 6.5mm on average. If the gap isn’t big enough, they’ll often enlarge it by gnawing to gain access to a property.
